Pamela Jooste is in Kaapstad gebore en sy woon steeds daar. Haar eerste roman, Dance with a Poor Man’s Daughter, is verskeie kere bekroon. Die daarop volgende Frieda and Min, Like Water in Wild Places en People Like Ourselves is ewe goed beoordeel en was net so gewild.
Pamela Jooste was born in Cape Town where she still lives with her lawyer husband. She began writing for Fair Lady at the age of seventeen and had many short stories published both in South Africa and in the UK. She has written soap operas and plays for the then Springbok Radio and she has written film scripts. Before she began writing full time, she worked in publishing for Howard Timmins publishers and then worked for BP Southern Africa where she headed up their Communications Department.
Her first novel, Dance with a Poor Man's Daughter (1998) was awarded the Commonwealth Prize for Best First Novel Africa Region, the Sanlam Prize for Fiction and the South African Bookseller's/Book Data Choice Award. In the UK it was a W.H. Smith Choice, with the Guardian saying '... out of South Africa comes the most moving novel you’ll read all year.' Her second novel, Like Water in Wild Places, was translated into German and Swedish.
