About the author
Born in England, Nicholas Ashby moved to SA when he was three. He studied drama at the University of Cape Town and, skipping military conscription, he set forth on his travels immediately upon graduating mostly in the Middle East, working for a time as an English teacher in Cairo. In 1988 he returned to South Africa to work as an actor, based in Johannesburg and doing theatre, TV and film work. In 1998 he moved on to Russia together with his partner to work as language trainers, and then later to Taiwan to do the same. There, they also studied Mandarin. Their daughter was born in Los Angeles in 2002 and they now live in Cape Town. Time Pips is his first novel.
