About the author
Happy Ntshingila was born in Soweto in 1960. He is the Executive Director: Marketing and Communications of Absa. In 2000 he founded HerdBuoys, the first black-owned and managed advertising agency in South Africa. In December 2005 HerdBuoys McCann-Erickson was a R400m ad agency, ranking amongst the top ten in the industry. HerdBuoys made ads for South African Breweries, Coca-Cola, MasterCard, Nestlé, L’Oreal, Motorola, Vodacom, General Motors and Telkom, amongst others. HerdBuoys is also credited for having changed the colours of South African Airways from the old springbok tail to the current flag, and for designing the ballot paper for South Africa’s first democratic elections.
