About the illustrator
Born in Cape Town, Fiona Moodie obtained a BA degree and a teaching qualification from the University of Cape Town, subsequently leaving for Europe where she was able to attend the École Nationale Superieure des Arts Decoratifs in Paris.
A chance meeting with an Austrian book illustrator who advised her to go to the Bologna Children’s Book Fair with a portfolio of work helped her to realise a life-long ambition to write and illustrate children’s books. From working with and observing the many artists and illustrators she came into contact with after the fair, and through the Czech film animator and illustrator Stephan Zavrel, she embarked on a successful career as an illustrator and writer. Fynbos Fairies is the thirteenth children’s book she has illustrated. She wrote the text of eight of these books.
In 1981 she married South African Sean Baumann. Their twin daughters were born in London in 1986. In 1992 the couple returned to Cape Town permanently. In 1996, Nabulela, her eight book, was published locally in eight languages. In 2000 she was awarded the SAPPI Prize for Atlantis Rises.

Fiona se illustrasies is in belangrike uitstalruimtes vertoon.
