About the author Alex Smith is a writer, traveller, teacher, textile merchant, bookseller and adventurer. She is the author of Algeria’s Way and Drinking from the Dragon’s Well, has been short-listed for the SA PEN Literary Award and Caine Prize, and won a silver award in the English category of the Sanlam Prize for Youth Literature. At present she lives in Cape Town.
