About the author Alan D Elsdon joined the South African Police in 1973. He served in various capacities, including the Narcotics Bureau and the Central Investigation Department, before joining the Security Branch where he became a cryptographer. He left the Security Branch in 1993 and carried on working in security in the private sector. In 2008 he returned from a stint in mining security in the DRC, before joining a corporate investigation company in Cape Town.
